Monetizing Mobile
Mobile is exploding. Over 100 million people in the US have smartphones, consumers are spending over 60 minutes a day consuming media on these devices, and people glance at their phone about 40 times a day. That is a massive and very active user base. Analysts estimate that app-related revenues reached $25 billion last year, on the way to more than $70 billion by 2017.
Google and Facebook have cracked the code, but clearly, building a sustainable business requires much more than building a popular service, web site, or application. This panel brings together a group of application experts to explore the various ways to monetize mobile technologies. From fee for service to subscription to in-app purchases, to advertising, to big data analytics. All of the possible scenarios will be discussed.
If you are building a mobile software application, this panel will describe how to transform your product into a viable business.
Panelists:
- Andrew Gerhart - COO, AerServ
- David Glickaman - CEO, Ultra Mobile
- Fred Thiel - Chairman of the Board and CEO, Local Corporation
- Dave Yonamine - CEO, MobilityWare

Wearables
The hottest theme in mobile technology is the introduction of wearable gadgets that can track everything from seizures to how much sunlight you soak up. Device makers large and small attempt to make wearables that are both functional and fashionable. We are surrounded by mobile technology, and it’s attaching to and engulfing our human form. And we are far from even defining the possibilities.
The market for wearables will keep growing, buoyed by the impending arrival of the Apple Watch and other new gadgets. Convincing consumers to buy and use these devices will require a lot more work on design, technology miniaturization, and so-called killer apps—all likely to be major focus areas for wearable-gadget makers in the year ahead.
This panel will focus on the trends and opportunities associated with wearable technology highlighting the things we are likely to see in the coming months and innovations that will shape this sector in the future.
